Northwest Consolidated School District

Northwest Consolidated School District (NWCSD) is a rural Oregon school district, made of several recently consolidated city and county districts. It is entirely fictitious, so let’s pretend it’s in Marney County, Oregon. Each individual district used to communicate with parents through PTA meetings and mailings, but the consolidated district is struggling to figure out how to communicate with a much larger audience (1500 families now, up from 150-200 per district before consolidation).

The district will be hosting its annual Spring Shindig and Hoedown on March 11, but there are fears that a lack of road maintenance over the last year will make it difficult for attendees to gather at a single location. While the Marney County Grange has enough indoor and outdoor space to accommodate everyone (weather permitting), the county road to it has developed severe washboarding and potholes over the last winter.

So, the school district superintendent has decided to put together a PTA and general volunteer meeting for February 10 to find parents and students with sturdy vehicles who could be volunteer shuttle drivers. If the district is unable to find enough volunteers, the event will need to be postponed until the gymnasium at Marney County High School can be prepped for the anticipated attendance.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the event should contact Superintendent Thalmer’s office at 541-555-1234 or by email at StevieT@hotmail.com.
